What You Can Live With

Back in high school, I had a boyfriend who I really really loved, (as much as a girl that age can.) He was a really great guy, but things didn't work out because of the way he was. Later, we had the opportunity and the desire to be together again, but I essentially turned him down. Time had passed, and we both had grown up, but that aspect of his personality hadn't changed. That's who he is, and that's fine for someone else, just not for me. Even though I loved him, I couldn't accept that part of him. I don't regret it at all because we both ended up happier.  I get so frustrated hearing people say that they think their significant other will change for them. I feel like if you really love someone, you wouldn't want to change them. Of course, no one is perfect, and we all see things in our spouses/boyfriends/girlfriends that we wish were different. I think you have to decide what you can live with, and if you can't accept their negative qualities, then it's time to wish them well and move on.
